Nice day; woke up at 7 and puttered around after breakfast (1 banana). Put a gel in my bag to have right before start but ended up forgetting to take it. 30 min walk to TD Waterhouse stadium - a bit long - 20 min would have been perfect. Already picked up race kit on Sat, so walked around, warmed up behind the stands about 10 min jog (tried to shadow Komer but of course he's too fast so I let him go) followed by dynamic stretches and drills 2x(As Bs Ds), one stride. Colin C, London RR manager, was also warming up behind the grandstand but must have just finished his warmup. Saw people moving toward the start line so thought it best to get to the track. They were starting a group warmup, so I finished my strides on the infield.

Start time 9am. Lined up near the front, approximately lane 2 to avoid being squished or boxed in. Start around the track went surprisingly smoothly. 1k in 4:19; 2k in 9:00 so don't know how accurate the markers were. 5k (loop 1) went OK - knew I was in first place but still deciding whether or not to DNF since not feeling sharp - I stopped and turned around to watch the first 5k woman finish then continued second loop by myself, at tempo, the whole way because I couldn't see anybody behind me and JB Orange was a ways in front of me. Aimed for 45 min so am pleased with the results even though course was probably short 200m.

Last year I did this the day after Niagara 50k, in 47: something and won a Saucony bag that I gave to Pete. I wore my RR shorts and orange Nike top and met up with Jason and Ernie's RR 10k group. This year wore navy NB shorts and Adidas top which make me feel fat and I didn't know anyone well (except Sherry, who is at every race doing timing at the finish line, and Keith, who I didn't see until afterward). Smaller race this year. Weather sunny but not too bad. Anyway, this year's race was a good fitness indicator and I'll do better in the fall in a bigger race and with more conditioning. Won a pair of Sauconys and a pair of entries to City Parks pools. Ate 2 orange popsicles, bottle of Propel, 2 pieces of Domino's cheese pizza, had massage (so-so), got ride home with Keith, napped and read in bed the rest of the afternoon.
